Let's talk about Vintage Toys - Part One !

In fairy kei, vintage toys and cartoons are one of the most popular motifs! But why is that?
It's simple! There are so many cute, pastel toys with super dreamy details that work perfectly for fairy kei! Today, i'll show you some of the most popular vintage toys with the fairy kei community, including some of my favourites!!
Magic Nursery Pets image credit @ Mattel
Magic Nursery Pets were made by Mattel in the late 1980's; they belonged to a larger series of toys, but the animals are the most popular in the fairy kei community due to their pastel colours and sweet faces! There were four colours featured in this series; peach, mint, purple and pink! There were also four animal types; bears, bunnies, puppies and cats. A lot of details on the plushies were slightly different, from different belly buttons, to eye-shadow colours! I personally love the mint coloured plushies; I think they're super sweet!

Twinkle Bears Image Credit @ Miss_Leonie
Twinkle bears are absolutely adorable plush bears with a twinkling plate on their tummies. They lit up by either touching their nose or feeding them with from the bottle they each came with. Their soft pastel colours and adorable faces make them really popular, and I personally love them a lot! These particular toys are quite elusive now a days, and tend to go for a lot of money; they're super cute though and would be perfect in any vintage toy collection!
Popples image credit @ Toysmagz
Popples were another cute vintage toy created by Mattel and were released in 1986. They were a series of plush toys that could be pushed inside it's own pouch to create a furry ball! They're super cute and come in a range of colours; often the pastel versions are popular in the fairy kei community, such as the baby popples and the slumber party popples! My favourites are Crisby the Baby Popple and Potato Chip from the original series!

Tea Bunnies image credit @ Tomy
Tea Bunnies were originally produced by Tomy at around 1995; they are a set of pose-able plastic bunnies which came with tea cups that doubled at shops! Each Tea Bunny has a dress, plastic hat, bunny sized tea cup and a large tea cup and saucer. The hat has two holes on the top so the bunnies ears can fit through; the hats also work as roofs for the large tea cups.  I personally find these cute toys to be underrated; the soft pastel colours, sweet flower themes and the small details are super sweet! I really like Daisy Breeze the yellow bunny and Pansy Parfait the mint bunny!

This ends part one of looking at cute vintage toys !! (I did write more but accidentally deleted it haha)
Next time, get ready for Care Bears, PJ Sparkles Pets and Yum Yums!
See u next time cuties !

fashion sweet heart: minaminakawaii ❤

Today i'd love to talk about one of my favourite fashion inspirations, minaminakawaii! Mina wears mainly wears fairy kei, but they also wear spank kei, decora and sweet lolita! One of the main things i love about their outfits is that they often combine styles, such as wearing sweet lolita skirts in fairy kei and sweet fairy kei pieces in decora! I love all the little details in their outfits, their style makes me so happy! Be sure to follow their Instagram and YouTube!

This outfit is one of my favourites; the use of cute layers and accessories make for a cute, fancy outfit. The 6%dokidoki top and milklim collar match so well, it's like their one piece! The skirt also looks so good with the top; the colour combination is so sweet and precious! The lilac legwarmers and lilac garter also help balance the outfit sweetly! The wig looks perfect with this outfit; the space buns are really sweet, and I love how they placed bows on top of them. This outfit is so dreamy and really inspires me to make a coord like it!

These two outfits are perfect examples of sweet, oversized fairy kei looks! I love the poofy skirts and the oversized jackets! The first outfit, while it features a bright, decora like top, still looks very cute and yumekawa; the fluffy lilac tutu helps with the dreamy silhouette. The second outfit has a sweet space theme to it with stars and planets, but the soft pastel colours make for a sweet fairy kei look.
This outfit is another favourite of mine! I love the soft, pastel tops and skirt, followed by these bright, decora styled tights and shoes! The use of frills in the collar and skirt helps tie the two together and I love the oversized look of the cardigan! Blue, pink and yellow are very prominent in this outfit, which helps make the outfit cohesive.

Mina has an adorable sense of style, and I love how they piece everything together! I always find myself smiling when I see a new outfit of theirs, because it's always super cute and inspirational!

Mina, (if you're reading this), you are super cute and amazing and I hope one day I can meet you! Thank you for inspiring me everyday! ❤❤❤

Lets talk about Cute Bedrooms!

If there is one thing i love to look at, it's definitely kawaii bedrooms!! I love seeing all the cute, little details and the dreamy aesthetics !! I personally love having a cute, personalised room; nothing beats living in a cute environment and being surrounded by things you love!
Today I'll show you some of my favourite bedrooms and their cute details!! I hope they can inspire you to make a dreamy room too!

First room I want to talk about is the room of Mypasteluniverse. Charlotte has a large variety of cute, vintage toys and plushies; this really helps create a dreamy aesthetic and the colours look really nice with fairy kei! The toys include: Polly pockets, My little Pony, Keypers, Carebears, Mattel's Little Pretties, Fairy tails and many more! I really adore how she displays her accessories and badges; the Angelic Pretty rings are place on a cute, vanity styled toy which is reminiscent of the SPANK store in Nakano. I really love the "Cluttered Cuteness" aesthetic, because it's like cuteness in every corner!

This is Princess-Peachie's kawaii living room! Peachie likes to decorate her walls with cute posters, drawings and cut outs from calendars- this has a really cute, personal touch! Vintage toys and plushies are also very prominent in her room, with one of the most inspiring part being her bookshelf! It's full of Polly Pockets, Care bears, anime merchandise and other cute vintage toys; she's also decorated the back and shelves with cute fabric which is a nice detail! On her youtube channel, she has a flat tour which goes into detail about her kawaii house! In the video she says that her living room was inspired by other Japanese kawaii styled rooms, and that she wanted the room to be crazy, cute and colourful!

Ezaki Bisuko has an incredibly cute bedroom! The room is split into two aesthetics, one side is very yumekawa with flowing fabrics, while the other side has an impressive collection of powerpuff girl memorabilia! The shelves are often crammed full, creating a lot of details and layers! He has also DIY'ed a lot of his room, with cute pink lanterns and butterfly stickers on the shelves!

Kuua Oyasumi's room is the epitome of yumekawa cuteness! The room features a bunch of dreamy fabrics from her bed sheets to her curtains; the sheer fabric over her bed reminds me of a bed out of a fairy-tale! The Esther Kim bunny backpacks are an adorable detail to the room! I think a cute mirror is an essential to a kawaii room as it can make your outfit pictures look even cuter!

MahouPrince's room features a range of cute stuff; anime posters, branded shopping bags and their own personal drawings covers the walls which is super sweet. The shelves are also covered in cute toys, soft plushies and figures which I really like; it inspires you to be surrounded by your interests and it helps make a nice, happy atmosphere! Another detail I like is how they keep their clothing on display! They're just too cute to put away!πŸ’˜

Here are some more cute room pictures that really inspire me!

Dream Diary: the cutest meetup ever !

Making a fun and engaging meetup is such a big dream of mine; the fairy kei community has made such wonderful meet ups in the past, from cute picnics, to fifidoll's "Sayonara Summer" event! Sometimes it's tough to keep everyone together and engaged; some people want to shop, others want to do something creative, and sometimes others just want to meet up to chat. If I were to ever organise a fairy kei event, this is what I would create!🌸🌷🌻

A large, safe space which is indoors is number one for organising a good meetup. Frankly, the general public sucks, and they like to take pictures without permission, as well as make comments when we're just trying to get on with our day! Having a fun place indoors would be so beneficial, allowing people who might have bad anxiety to come along to an event, as well as allowing a big group to easily interact with one another!πŸ’–πŸ’œπŸ’

Cakes with Faces Dreamybows Kawaii Party Video
Creative workshops would also be a really cute idea; it would be really nice to be able to relax and create something fun with friends. When I attended the Kurebayashi Artbox Meetup, they had a corner with a bunch of creative items like beads, googly eyes and pom poms. I think it would be a really nice, relaxing idea for friends to do together. Like the Artbox event, there could even be a competition to create the cutest little monster/creation!πŸ‘½πŸ‘ΎπŸ‘»
missloutoyou's stall
Vendors would also be a really sweet idea! Cute clothing, artwork and plushies would be ideal as it appeals to everyone, and allows them to buy cute stuff! Here are the vendors that I think would work super well for the fairy kei community:
  • DreamyBows: They supply cute clothing, accessories and shoes which would work perfectly for the fairy kei community! The shop staff are also super cute <3
  • Indie Creators: Indie kawaii creators would be perfect for this event, it allows them to bring their work while also enjoying a cute event! Some of the indie creators I think would be good are: Missloutoyou, Fifidoll, HoshiCandy, Geeniejay and Amyblue !

A photo area is practically vital (lmaO) for the fairies! We all love to take cute photos with one another, so a specific area for it would be super cute! There could be cute props and vintage toys (people can bring toys to the event!) which people could take photos with, as well as cute balloons for a backdrop! I also have a cute friend who is really talented at photography who could take pictures, which would be really nice!

Food could be brought along as well, however this could be costly. I think it might be best if people provide their own food, but there could be a small table with drinks and some light snacks just in case! Cakes, crisps and fruit would be really sweet! πŸ§πŸŽ‚πŸ‘

Maybe one day i'll get to make a really cute meet, but these are my ideas so far hehe! I want to make the fairy kei community happy, and I hope one day I can make this dream a reality !
thanks for reading πŸ’˜

building a fairy kei outfit !

I love the cuteness of fairy kei, it's fun and happy! But often it's hard to make an outfit have a "fairy feeling", especially if someone is just starting out! So I thought i'd talk a bit about putting together a cute outfit!

What is Fairy kei?

Fairy kei (kei meaning style) is a style based around cute pastels, soft textures and dreamy motifs often coming from 80's cartoons such as Care Bears, Barbies and My little pony. Vintage toys are also popular with fairy kei, PJ Sparkles and Popples being the favourites. The style began with Tavuchi, owner of the vintage shop SPANK!, as her personal style and vastly grew from there! While fairy kei isn't as popular with jfashion wearers in Japan, it has grown in the west!

The "essentials" of fairy kei!

I think with most people wanting to venture into a new style, the first question that comes into mind is; What are the rules? Fairy kei has always been known as a fairly relaxed style, with no real rules, just some rough guidelines for the style.
images belong to: tokyofashion, spank, mistydreaming, manamoko, xmypasteluniverse
The most important features of fairy kei are the vintage, dreamy motifs and the sweet colour palette. Motifs and themes that are popular in fairy kei are: moons and stars, rainbows, confetti, sweets, baby animals, unicorns and any vintage 80's cartoons or toys. Pastels and neon tinted pastels are the main colour scheme, with the most popular colours being pink, lavender, mint, turquoise/sky blue and yellow. White can also be used in fairy kei, however dark shades and black are not recommended; black polka dots are sometimes seen in outfits, however I find this to be more spank kei than fairy kei.

One of the more 'traditional' fairy kei silhouettes follows the guidelines of a defined waist with a large 'tutu shaped' skirt or petticoats. The defined waist isn't seen as revealing however, like current fashion, more like an aid to giving the outfit some shape. Fairy kei tends have more oversized clothes which allows for a layering look; big t-shirts can be tucked into skirts, oversized jackets can provide a lot of comfy layers and long legwarmers can be worn over cute tights. Fabric used in fairy kei tends to be quite lightweight as thin fabrics allow for layered looks; this is prominent in skirts and petticoats, dresses and peignoirs. On the opposite end, thick, fluffy sweaters and jackets are popular for a soft and comfy silhouette. Skirts usually follow a skater style at around knee length, but can sometimes be thigh length or even floor length. If skirts aren't your style though, pumpkin pants (similar to bloomers) are very popular due to adding volume and they look really adorable underneath oversized jumpers. Tights and over the knee socks are also very popular in fairy kei, especially if they feature cute motifs like hearts, stars and animals. Spank, fancy surprise and nile perch have super cute, pastel tights that fit the fairy kei theme perfectly.

Recently, there has been a rise in 'boyish' fairy kei, substituting the stereotypical 'girly' silhouette, from a more cool and sporty style. A common change is skipping the skirts for jeans, trousers and shorts. Pyjama bottoms are a really cute alternative, as they often have really cute prints and allow for layering. Harem pants are incredibly popular due to the comfy and cool look they provide, with the 6%dokidoki pants being the most popular. Pastel jeans are also very popular and tend to be easy to find. Lastly, another cool addition to boyish fairy kei is the use of hats, mainly baseball caps. They tend to have a sporty feel, but can still be super adorable, especially if you add badges or embroidery to the visor.
Images belong to Dreamy Bows, WC, YRU, Fila and Reebok
Shoes in fairy kei are usually on the comfortable side, with sporty shoes being the preferred choice. Reebok classic high tops are the iconic pair of shoes that Tavuchi often wore, but any shoes that come in a pastel shade would be perfect for the fashion. Recently in the western community, platform shoes have become increasingly popular with YRU being the main brand of choice. Fairy-kei also uses items commonly worn in lolita (mainly sweet lolita) so tea parties, ruffly platforms, and heart-buckle shoes or boots are perfect for the fashion. Decorating shoes are also popular in the fashion, from painting the soles to decorating the sides with stickers and adding pastel laces.

Images belong to Monascas Banana, Sakura1tama, Moon-dreams and Nile Perch
D.I.Y is also prominent in fairy kei; from making your own clothing and accessories, to adding cute details to other clothes. I've seen vintage fabric being remade into clothing, lace and frills added to collars and sleeves and cute patches being sewn onto a denim jacket. Tote bags made from vintage materials are also really cute! Monascas Banana and Sakura1tama are some really good places to look for D.I.Y inspiration. The fairy kei forums also has a bunch of tutorials which can help inspire you to make your own items!

Where to buy fairy kei items?

Due to fairy kei featuring a lot of vintage items, you might be lucky going to charity stores (thrift stores) and looking through the second hand clothes. There is also second hand sales online for vintage items, but often prices can be inflated due to the want for these clothes being so high.

Brands are also very popular in the fairy kei community; from famous japanese brands like 6%dokidoki and milklim, to indie brands such as Holleyteatime and Cherry_Cheezy. As there are so many shops that you can purchase fairy kei items from, i'm going to link Fairy-Tips' Shop List as it has a range of shops listed, showing where they're based and if a shopping service is needed.

lets talk wishlists (PART TWO: ACCESSORIES)

Making cute wish-lists has always been a habit of mine- I love talking about fashion and what inspires me. I'm super passionate about Japanese fashion, specifically fairy kei and decora fashion. I also love looking at what clothes go with each other and how I can experiment with colours, textures and silhouettes!

Fairy kei involves cute pastel fashion with sweet, dreamy motifs; the style often has a lot of layers, and has a soft, oversized silhouette. Decora fashion features bright, pop colours as well as a variety of accessories. It's all about the mishmash of varieties of colours and textures, as well as giving off an atmosphere of playfulness and fun!

This is part two, where i will show my accessory wishlist and legwear wishlist. All of these items I one day want to own, however I don't make these wish-lists to ask people to buy me things; I want to buy them all myself, I'm showing the lists to show what interests me!

Top row from left to right

OtaQ 'Take your meds' socks: With the cute lilac and pink colour scheme, these socks are super cute and perfect for fairy kei and spank kei! Usually I tend to avoid menhera/illness themes clothing, but I really like the lettering and the pill bottle at the bottom.
Block coloured socks: Inspired by Mahouprince, these block socks are so cute and colourful and go perfectly with decora. I love the mismatch of colours and the block patterns adds dimension to an outfit. The colours will also go with a variety of clothes.
Manamoko yellow thigh highs: I'm in love with these socks, the print is so adorable and i like how it covers the whole sock. These socks would go perfectly with fairy kei due to the cute motifs and soft colours.

6%DokiDoki Blue Unicorn tights: I own the pink pair of these tights, and they are super cute and comfortable! The yellow details are really sweet and the colours can work for both fairy kei and decora. The tights would also look really nice layered with bright socks.
OtaQ "Love you Hate you" socks: I love the styling of these socks, with the text details down the tights and the frilly lace surrounding it. The hearts are another cute detail that I really like!
Spank Ribbon tights: With cute ribbon motifs, these tights would go perfectly with spank kei and fairy kei; due to the amount of colours in the print, it would work with almost any colour of clothing. I also like the black dots sprinkled around the tights, as it adds a real fancy vibe.
Spank Lilac Dreamy tights: These tights are super dreamy and cute, with soft, cloudy prints and star motifs scattered around the tights. As well as going perfectly with other lilac pieces, I think these tights would look good with yellow and pink clothes due to the small details.
Spank Candy Heart tights: these candy heart tights have a super cute motif with sweet messages inside pastel love hearts. These would look really nice with the 6%dokidoki pastel tutu as well as my tri-coloured pastel skirt.

The next picture will cover my accessories wish list; to be honest, I have a lot of DIY plans such as cute kandi bracelets and hama bead necklaces so they've also been included in this list! πŸ’—πŸ’›πŸ’šπŸ’™πŸ’œ

Top row from left to right

Sebastian Masuda Baseball cap: Baseball caps are always something I've been interested in, and I love the colours featured in this cap. My interest in baseball caps was mainly inspired by DecoraDemon who often wears a cap with decora fashion; I like how she decorated her caps, but also how it puts emphasis on her hair accessories.
πŸ’™
Yellow Dinosaur Ring: I love uniquely shaped accessories, and this dinosaur ring is perfect! This would look perfect with decora fashion due to the bright colours! (I also think dinosaur motifs are really cute in decora!)
Pastel Galaxyz LOVE necklace: Similar to the 6% Shooting Star necklace, I love how big this statement necklace is! The colours are super sweet and love heart is a cute detail. I think this necklace would be perfect for fairy kei and would match sax & lilac clothing.

Angelic Pretty Giraffe ring: Unique shaped accessories are always my favourite, and this giraffe is just too cute. The pink spots and blue eye are some really cute added details.
Hair Clips: I’m using this as a filler image for cute and unique hair clips! I love the cluttered hair accessory aesthetic of decora fashion, especially when the hair clips are different from the norm! Mahouprince is a big inspiration for me with their hair accessories always looking amazing and bright!!!
πŸ’˜
MAGICAL Panda clip: Magical is such a cute indie store, and I love her panda clips so much! The soft textures used as well as pearls for the eyes gives the piece a yumekawa atmosphere.

pudding boy so well! I hope one day I can do him justice hehe.
Beaded bracelets: I'm using this as another filler image for cute bracelets. I love unique beads such as teddy bears, hearts and stars; the colours I normally choose are pink, yellow, purple, blue and green!
Fabric Hair Clips: These penguin clips remind me a lot of the duck clip I brought from KIDDYLAND! The design is super sweet and unique. I’d love to make some hairclips in this style!
πŸ’œ
Angelic Pretty Bunny and Bear ring: Angelic Pretty rings are so cute and unique, I love the soft colours used and small details in the pieces. The pink stitching as well as cute bows on the pieces are super sweet.

6%DokiDoki Alphabet Bracelet: With bright colours and cute, round text, this bracelet is super cute! I love the lettering, and it reminds me a lot of the text beaded bracelets! I’ve also seen this used as a hair accessory (?!) which is super neat and I’d love to experiment with this!

So that's the end of my cute wishlist's!! Wish me luck on getting all of these one day hehe, i'll work hard πŸ‘ŒπŸ’•
Thank you so much for reading!

Top Row, from left to right.

Freya (littlemomiji)
Bodyline Blue & Yellow tutus: Tutus are so versatile and cute, working for both fairy kei and decora. The colours and details are super girly and cute. The tutus can also be layered for a more poofy effect; Kurebayashi often uses 2-3 tutus layered on top of each other in decora looks, and I love the silhouette it provides.
Manamoko Fancy Surprise tee: This pink tee is so sweet and is by one of my favourite artists! The print is super sweet and has a sweet, fairy feeling to it; I think it would look really nice with my 6% tutu as well as some bodyline tutus.
Manamoko Sugar Dream Unicorn tee: This blue tee is by the same cute artist with an adorable, fancy print. I prefer the blue colourway as I tend to chose pink and I need more sax clothing in my wardrobe! The print also compliments the blue shade, and I think this tee would look cute with a pink skirt.
Nile Perch Teddy Bear jumper: I love how the pink and lilac compliment each other, it is such a dreamy piece. The teddy bear is fluffy and sweet, making it have a yumekawa aesthetic; I love it when clothes experiment with textures!
Milklim Ruffled Collar vest: I'm in loveeee with cute peter pan collars, it adds such a cute detail to a coordinate. This particular collar has ribbons and frills around the edge of the collar. The white colourway helps adds a yumekawa feel to an outfit, however other colours would create a more fairy or pop feeling.
Nile Perch Rainbow dress: I love the style of nile perch dresses; the frills, ribbons and flowy fabric make an outfit look incredibly sweet and cute. I love the soft shades in the rainbow dress and i think it will look really nice with my wc pastel rainbow cardigan!
πŸ’™
Vintage Mint Cat sweater; these sweaters are super popular in the fairy kei community, it gives off a sweet, dreamy feeling and the sweaters are often oversized which adds to the fairy kei silhouette. I love the mint version of this jumper as the pink and white stand out from it; I also love the spank kei vibe it gives off.

I love the yumekawa (dreamy) potential this top has, the top is oversized which adds to the cute silhouette. WC Long Sleeved Rainbow tee: this rainbow tee is perfect for decora fashion; the bright colours will work with any other colours in my wardrobe! My 90884 dress would go perfectly with the top underneath, and it would also pair perfectly with most of my 6% clothes. I've been really inspired by how Kurebayashi wears this top both casually and OTT.
2.x欑元 Pink hoodie: a comfortable, oversized hoodie is perfect for the yumekawa look! It is a warm hoodie, with long sleeves and pockets. The baby pink colour is also perfect for fairy kei looks while also staying warm.

Milklim striped skirt: This mint skirt has a cute, fairy feeling with pink and yellow stars printed on the sides. It would look perfect paired with either pink or yellow tops, as well as a pastel tutu underneath.
6% DokiDoki Heart Zip top: different coloured sleeves and the cute zip on this top add to the pop feeling of this top. I think the zip is so creative and allows you to experiment with layering underneath the top. 6%DokiDoki Lilac Unicorn top: I love the cute unicorns detailing the chest of this top; it would look perfect tucked into a pastel tutu. The sweet motifs go perfect with fairy kei and yumekawa; white clothing items would go really well with this piece. The top is also quite long, which would look really sweet for a senanan inspired look.
Mel (6%dokidoki staff)
6%DokiDoki Daydream Baby Doll dress: this sweet, pastel dress would look perfect with fairy kei due to the dreamy details. I think it would really suit spank tights and a large ruffled collar underneath. Blue, lilac and pink would also go really nicely with this dress.
6%DokiDoki Stardust Tiered Tube dress: I adore the colours of this piece, and the ruffles are a sweet touch. The holographic stars on the dress are also really sweet. I think a jumper on the top would really compliment the skirt part of the tube dress. A top underneath would also be super sweet, especially if it also have ruffles or lace incorporated.
6%DokiDoki Colorful Rebellion Raglan tee: This tee is so unique with colourful, patterned sleeves detailed with vintage toys and other 6%dokidoki items. This top would look really good with my 90884 dress or my 6% sunset tutu; it's perfect for decora and pop fashion.

This wraps up my clothing wishlist and why I like the items! My next post should feature accessories and legwear, I hope you liked my rambling!!
